Job Title: Senior Specialist, Government Relations

Location: Lagos
Job Type: Full Time

The Opportunity

  • The individual will relate with and manage government and other stakeholders at the state and local government levels (including State Houses of Assembly, all state and local government agencies and parastatals) to support continuity of business activities and minimize the impact of red tape, regulations and policies on operations.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Identify and prepare inputs/ submissions on all proposed policies, claims and other issues of state and local governments across the country which are likely to impact legally, socially and economically on company operations.
  • Monitor application by relevant agencies and authorities of extant state and local government policies, laws and by-laws as they pertain to the company’s operations.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability team on all Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at state and local government levels.
  • Provide inputs to policies, processes and strategies aimed at influencing regulatory policies to maintain a level playing field and drive the company’s compliance with extant laws at state and local government levels.
  • Engage with stakeholders to analyze the impact of current and future legislative and regulatory issues/ trends.
  • Create and manage a database of information on key state and local government relations to support regional operations.
  • Monitor key legislative opportunities and risks for the company and alert internal stakeholders about them while identifying possible solutions to potential challenges
  • Represent the company at trade association, government, coalition and other industry stakeholder meetings.
  • Engage directly with state and local government groups to strengthen the company’s relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Undertake general & periodic audits of relevant events and developments in the various segments of government at the state & local council levels across Nigeria.
  • Build awareness among internal stakeholders of key state policy decisions affecting the telecoms industry in the present and in the future.
  • Collaborate effectively across the wider Regulatory Affairs & Government Relations team to develop and implement initiatives aimed at improving the business environment for the company’s operations as well as enhance the company’s reputation across state capitals.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Associate Director, Government Relations.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
  • +5 years’ post-NYSC work experience in a telecoms environment or reputable law firm.
  • Demonstrable drafting skills and ability to prepare legal opinions and research papers within tight deadlines.
