*Identifies Low Literacy Rate As Responsible for High Crime Rate in Nigeria’s North
The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Security Agencies Relations Committee, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama has identified security and education as the major catalysts for the development of any society, emphasising the need for Nigeria to pay crucial attention to both issues.
Gadzama shared this while speaking at the recently concluded Annual Law Week of the Calabar Branch of the NBA, popularly christened The Doyen Branch.
The Law Week which was themed “We the People: An Agenda for National Consciousness” saw several distinguished guests dissect topics of socio-economic and political relevance while also proffering solutions to the myriad of challenges facing present day Nigerian society.
Gadzama who was invited to share his thoughts on the concepts of security, safety and education was represented by Nella Andem Rabana SAN at the event.
In his presentation, the Learned Silk stated that security and education are twin factors which determine the level of development experienced in a society.
He further stressed that society’s inclination to advancement is proportional to the level and kind of education and security education prevalent in that society.
In the presentation, Chief Gadzama used Nigeria as a case study when he noted that the parts of the country with the most incidence of insecurity are the Northern regions which are also by far the most deprived of formal education.
He thanked the organisers of the law week for the invitation and extended his best wishes to the leadership of the branch.
