Rivers State Executive Council has approved a ₦1.8 trillion budget proposal, christened the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development,” for the 2026 fiscal year. The approval was given at the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday evening.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the newly sworn-in Special Adviser to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Economic Matters and Social Development, Prof. Peter Medee, said the budget is designed to enable the state complete and advance key projects across critical sectors.

He noted that the total size of the budget stands at ₦1,854,248,734,475.76.

“The main thrust of the 2026 proposed estimate has been fashioned to enable the state accomplish and conclude ongoing projects, as well as clear outstanding obligations in key sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, human capacity development, youth empowerment, culture, tourism, and information and communications technology,” Medee said.

He added, “This budget is christened the Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development because the priority of the State Government for 2026 is recovery, restoration, reassurance, consolidation, and inclusivity. Despite many challenges, the State Government has remained resilient, focused, and committed to achieving key targets for the people of Rivers State.”

Also present at the briefing were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, and the newly sworn-in Special Adviser on Finance, Barrister Frank Fubara.

Dr. Sirawoo emphasized the administration’s determination to recover lost ground and strengthen the state’s development. “Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration is committed to bridging the lost grounds. A very robust budget figure has been arrived at after careful deliberation to position our state where it needs to be,” he said.
