Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has set up moves to monitor the members to ensure they comply strictly to the ethics of the profession.

The registrar/secretary of the council, Faruk Umar Abubakar stated this yesterday at the induction ceremony of 168 new nurses at Abia State University Uturu.

Represented by a director in the council, Christy Chigbu, he urged them to display humility and passion in their practice and make the well being of their patients their priority.

Speaking, the vice chancellor of the university, Onyemachi Ogbulu said the university had continued to train and produce quality medical professionals with the nursing department scoring 90% in the last profession examination.

He urged them to always strive to be good ambassadors of the university by abiding to the ethics of their profession and commended their parents and lecturers for ensuring their success.

In a guest lecture, A U Chinweuba said the country needs a sustainable health care system built on the important roles nurses play and improvement of their working conditions to reduce to brain.

The lecture had as its theme: “Our Nurse, Our Future: Acknowledging the Vital Role of Nurses in Building a Strong and Sustainable Health Care System in Nigeria”.

In her address of welcome, the head of nursing sciences department, Peace Emeonye thanked Ogbulu, the university management and state director of nursing for their unflinching support.

The best graduating student, Mercy Igbojionu in her valedictory speech, expressed gratitude to God for a successful academic journey and lauded her parents and lecturers for their training and guidance to achieve the feat.
