— Says competition will broaden horizon of students in various areas of law

The Department of Programs and Competition, LAWSAN South-East DOPPP is set to make records, as it prepares to host a Competition on the legality, taxability and possible regulation of cryptocurrency in Nigeria. The Competition is slated to hold in three stages: Moot & Mock trial, Public Speaking/Speech presentation, and Street Lawyering.

The Moot and Mock category of the competition will be held from the High Court to the Supreme, where 5 Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria ( comprising Lawyers from top law firms in Nigeria), will be sitting to give full judgement at the final stage.

This is the first time in Nigeria, a suit of this nature, will be tested before a Nigerian Court.

The aim of this
Competition is to broaden horizon of students in legal drafting, legal writing and advocacy skills, and further enhance interest of students in the blockchain network.

At the Virtual launching of the Competition: Duke M.C Nwosu, an Associate at Compos Mentis Law Firm, and Chinenye Oragwu, Partner at Calmhill Partners, will be speaking on different topics regarding cryptocurrency. The topics centre on: meaning of Cryptocurrency; use-cases; threats; possible regulatory mechanism; and prospects of cryptocurrency as a means of exchange in Nigeria.
