Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has made history as Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant after successfully qualifying through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

Her achievement has drawn commendation from the Federal Government, with the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, describing the feat as a remarkable demonstration of hard work, discipline, resilience and commitment to excellence.

In a statement on Monday, Olawande congratulated the teenager, saying her success reflected the enormous potential of Nigerian youths when given the right support and encouragement.

“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age,” the minister said.

Olawande noted that Okundaye had distinguished herself as a shining example of what young Nigerians could achieve through focus, determination and dedication.

“Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth. Her accomplishment shows that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers and set new records,” he added.

The minister also praised her parents, teachers and mentors, saying their support, guidance and encouragement played a significant role in helping her reach the historic milestone.

He said the achievement should inspire other young Nigerians to remain focused on their dreams and pursue excellence in their chosen fields.

Olawande reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to policies and programmes designed to empower young Nigerians and help them realise their full potential.

“Osasere’s achievement reinforces our belief that the future of Nigeria is bright in the hands of focused and talented young citizens,” he said.

Okundaye set the new national record after completing the ICAN professional examinations, becoming the youngest person in Nigeria to attain the prestigious professional certification.

Her feat surpasses the previous record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who qualified as Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 17.

The ICAN qualification is widely regarded as one of the most demanding professional certifications in Nigeria, requiring rigorous study, discipline and successful completion of professional examinations.

Okundaye’s emergence as Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant is expected to further encourage academic excellence, professional ambition and youth achievement across the country.
