Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb (UK), has issued a stirring goodwill message to the NBA Uyo Branch as they mark their 2025 Annual Law Week.

In his message, Akangbe praised the branch leadership and members while commending the Law Week’s theme, “Standing Together for the Legal Profession,” describing it as “both urgent and necessary.”

Reflecting on the state of the legal profession, Akangbe posed pointed questions:

“Are we truly standing together? Are we doing enough to demand the full implementation of the legal practitioners’ remuneration order? Are we, perhaps in silence or self-interest, complicit in slowing the reforms we so desperately need?”

The respected Senior Advocate called on legal professionals across the country to use the occasion not merely for rhetoric but as an opportunity for honest introspection and renewed commitment to reform.

“This is a moment to reclaim the soul of our profession — not through rhetoric, but through action rooted in fairness, courage, and solidarity,” he stated.

He concluded by expressing hope that the conversations during the Law Week would move the Nigerian Bar closer to a more just, united, and courageous institution.
