The Office of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, headed by Hajo Sarki Bello, has issued an important notice to all Notaries Public in Nigeria. The notice requires all Notaries Public to urgently log into the official notary platform at https://notary.gov.ng and update their details to facilitate the creation of an electronic notaries register.

TheNigeriaLawyer recalls that on October 17th, we made a publication titled “Urgent Notice: All Nigerian Notaries Must Update Information On Official Platform.” Subsequently, it was brought to our attention that the portal was not yet open for registration. However, it is now open, and all Nigerian Notaries are advised to update their information on the portal.

The notary.gov.ng website is now fully functional, and all Nigerian Notaries are invited to register for vetting and inclusion in the Nigerian Electronic Register for Notaries. Before starting the registration process, Notaries Public are advised to ensure they have the following ready:

1. Passport Photo: A passport-sized photo (jpg, jpeg, or png) saved on their device.
2. Supreme Court Number & Swear-in Date: Their Supreme Court Number and the date of their swearing-in (as shown on their Oath document).
3. File Number (Optional): If they have a file number from the Supreme Court, they should use the year and 6-digit number from their latest letter.
4. Legal Email & Contact Info: Their official email address and phone number.
5. Correct Data: All information must be accurate, as incorrect or duplicate entries will prevent submission.

Upon successful submission of the registration form, Notaries Public will receive a confirmation email.

The creation of an electronic notaries register is a significant step towards modernizing the Nigerian legal system and improving the efficiency of notarial services. By providing accurate and up-to-date information, Notaries Public will contribute to the development of a comprehensive database that will streamline various legal processes and enhance transparency.

The Office of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court urges all Notaries Public to comply with this notice promptly to ensure a smooth transition to the electronic notaries register system.
