*Says Creation Of One More State, Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Will Bring Peace To South-East

Senator Ned Nwoko has insisted that polygamy offers men greater balance and stability, declaring that he “feels sorry” for men with only one wife. The Delta North lawmaker made the remarks on Sunday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he also responded to allegations of domestic violence made by his estranged wife, Nollywood star Regina Daniels.

When questioned about how he manages four wives, Nwoko replied after a brief pause:

“Every man should do that. The example I give is this: just imagine telling you to stand on one foot. You know how difficult it is. But to stand on two, three, four is much more balanced. I feel sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg.”

Responding to the suggestion that the Bible discourages polygamy, he countered:

“The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith… You should marry who you want to marry.” On the swirling allegations of abuse, Nwoko strongly denied any wrongdoing. “I am not a violent person. I respect my wives. I love them and my kids.”

His defense followed a social media storm sparked by Regina Daniels’ unveiling of a new mansion in Lagos  a move many interpreted as a symbol of independence amid marital tensions. Her post came days after a viral video appeared to show her in distress, expressing frustration over alleged violence.

“In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing. But in my own house, I am a Queen,” she reportedly said in the clip.

Their six-year marriage, often in the spotlight due to their significant age difference, has increasingly shown signs of strain, now playing out publicly across social media.

During the interview, Nwoko also attributed the persistent insecurity in the South-East to perceived marginalisation of the region by successive governments. He argued that peace would return to the region if two key steps are taken:

“Create Anioma State to make the South-East six states, and release Nnamdi Kanu.
By the time you do these two things, I am almost certain that peace will return.”

Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has remained in the custody of the Department of State Services since June 2021, facing terrorism charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to Nwoko, the continued detention of Kanu which he described as unjust is a major trigger of the unrest.

The Joint Constitution Review Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives has approved the creation of an additional state in the South-East, and Nwoko is optimistic that his proposed Anioma State will be selected.

“There are about seven proposals from the South-East, and we are one of them.
At the public hearing in Enugu, we presented our case, and I am almost certain we will be chosen.”

He added that he is confident President Bola Tinubu will support the plan:

“It would be the best gift to the people of Anioma and the Igbo in general.”
