The police said on Thursday that but for aborting series of planned attacks, there would have been a total breakdown of law in the Southeast and Southsouth.
Force spokesman Frank Mba, said on Thursday: “If all the attacks that were targeted against the police, military, against our facilities that have taken place, the Southeast and Southsouth would have descended into a complete anarchy.”
Acknowledging that the police need to do more to attain a zero level success for the subversive elements, he said: “The force is doing a lot at the intelligence level and the operational level. As I speak with you a lot of those attacks were proactively nipped in the bud.
“We still need to do more to ensure that we attain a zero level success for the subversive elements. We cannot do it alone. Citizens must realize that a weakened police force is not in the interest of any of us.
“We expect political leaders, religious and traditional leaders, other stakeholders to speak out against such despicable acts. We expect the media to take the lead in mobilising public opinion against such unpatriotic acts.
“The general public should also know the risk of attacking police stations, and security facilities generally. We are positive and we will overcome this. We need to work together.”
