Edo-based activist, Precious Oruche, popularly known as “Mama Pee,” has been detained by police following a heated confrontation with the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident, which occurred on Friday and has since gone viral on social media, has triggered mixed reactions and conflicting narratives from both camps.

Eyewitnesses said Mama Pee accosted Abure while he prepared to board a Max Air flight to Benin, accusing him of being responsible for Nigerians’ hardship and the crisis within the Labour Party.

“Is this not Julius Abure? You’re the one frustrating Nigerians,” she reportedly shouted before continuing to berate him.

According to the LP, she carried her confrontation into the aircraft, ignoring repeated pleas from flight attendants to calm down, and persisted after disembarkation at Benin Airport, where security agents had to intervene.

A viral video shows a scuffle near the airport’s exit as security and immigration officials tried to separate the parties.

In one of her video recordings, Mama Pee alleged that she was assaulted by suspected thugs loyal to Abure.

“They want to beat me after I told Julius Abure he is frustrating Nigerians. He brought thugs to harass me,” she claimed.

Another activist, Peter Akah, also known as “Peter for Nigeria,” released a video calling for her immediate release, appealing to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebolo, and the State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to intervene. He described her as a victim of political violence who had been wrongfully turned into a suspect.

The Labour Party, however, condemned what it described as “an unwarranted attack” on Abure. In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party accused Mama Pee of harassing the chairman in public and boasting of her political connections.

“In one of her films released, the lady claimed that she has contacts with the highest police hierarchy, boasted that nothing will happen to her, and vowed that she will not stop attacking Abure or any member of the Labour Party executive,” the statement read.

The party described the confrontation as “suicidal aggression” and alleged it was politically motivated. It called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and bring her alleged sponsors to justice.

Following the altercation, Mama Pee was handed over to the police. According to an update by Yunusa Tanko, Interim Chairman of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, she is currently being held at the State CID in Edo State.

As of press time, efforts to reach the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, were unsuccessful.

The clash comes against the backdrop of a lingering leadership tussle within the Labour Party. While several court rulings, including from the Court of Appeal, have affirmed Abure’s leadership, a Supreme Court decision in April 2025 raised fresh questions over the legality of his tenure.
