The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the location where the body of Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, Adedamola Ogunbode, was buried following the arrest of the prime suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.
Ajisomo, who was rumored to have fled to the Benin Republic, was apprehended in the Alakuko area of Lagos on Monday and is currently assisting police detectives in locating the burial site.
The Command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed these developments to newsmen on Tuesday in response to inquiries.
Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025. His disappearance led to widespread speculation that his mutilated body had been discovered.
Last Friday, the Lagos State Police announced the arrest of three suspects and the ongoing search for five others connected to the murder. Among those arrested was Pastor Whepetoji Sunday, who allegedly received ₦70,000 from the victim’s account, and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member accused of receiving ₦300,000.
Additionally, the prime suspect’s mother, Omolara Ajisomo, was arrested for allegedly aiding her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, in fleeing after each reportedly withdrew ₦300,000 from the victim’s account.
Following public outrage and threats of a statewide protest by the students’ union, Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.
Hundeyin revealed that the newly arrested suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was the one who emptied Ogunbode’s bank account using the victim’s mobile phone.
“The principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested yesterday (Monday) morning at the Alakuko area. He was the one who cleared the victim’s bank account through the victim’s mobile phone,” Hundeyin stated.
Contrary to rumors, Hundeyin clarified that Ogunbode’s grave was not located within the church premises. However, the police sealed off the church where the arrested pastor worshipped after receiving intelligence reports of a planned arson attack in retaliation.
“The shallow grave is not around the church premises, but it is within the community,” Hundeyin said. “The church was sealed following intelligence reports that some people planned to burn it in vengeance, and we do not want that to happen.”
Meanwhile, a source involved in the investigation disclosed that police detectives were on their way to exhume the victim’s remains.
“I just received information that the newly arrested suspect has confessed to killing the LASU graduate, and the police are on their way to the burial site,” the source revealed.
When contacted for confirmation, Hundeyin simply responded, “Confirmed.”
