Images of lawyers dozing off during the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) proceedings at the Court of Appeal in Abuja have gone viral, sparking diverse reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Prominent figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, and other top politicians, had earlier arrived at the PEPC sitting for the judgment on the three petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
The viral images captured lawyers present at the sitting dozing off during the ongoing proceedings of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal. This development has triggered mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.
Some individuals attributed the lawyers’ somnolence to supernatural forces, while others expressed the view that it symbolized their lack of faith in the country’s judicial system.
Reacting to the images, one user on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), @DrPenking, wrote, “At a point where they were needed most, they slept.”
Another user, @Egorose183263, tweeted, “Bro, I don’t think this is ordinary. Juju, go plenty.”
@Mimi_Efombruh wrote, “What did they sprinkle in the courtroom? Everybody is sleeping.”
@Kelvingrate042 tweeted, “They already know these judges are scam and listening to them is a waste of time.”
@Chude commented, “The fact that most of the lawyers have been sleeping shows that they have also given up on the judiciary. Only Nigerians can save Nigeria.”
