President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje as Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a second and final term of five years.

The renewal follows what the Presidency described as a careful assessment of Bugaje’s performance, leadership record, and contributions to reforms in Nigeria’s technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector.

Professor Bugaje was first appointed to the position on March 14, 2021, and has overseen a series of reforms aimed at repositioning the country’s skills development ecosystem.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Tinubu administration acknowledged significant progress under Bugaje’s leadership, particularly in aligning technical education with global best practices.

Key achievements recorded by the NBTE during his first tenure include the strategic strengthening of Nigeria’s TVET framework, comprehensive curriculum modernisation, and the development and review of about 100 national curricula tailored to meet evolving global skills demands.

The statement noted that the reforms are in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education, which prioritises skills acquisition, innovation, and workforce readiness.

President Tinubu, while approving the renewal, charged the NBTE boss to build on existing gains and ensure the completion of ongoing initiatives within the sector.

He emphasised the importance of sustaining momentum in technical education reforms to better equip Nigerian youths with relevant skills for employment and enterprise.
