Says “A More Comprehensive Handover Note Will Be Given To You”

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has been formally inaugurated as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, succeeding Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, whose two-year tenure as head of the Association came to an end on Friday.

The inauguration took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where Badejo-Okusanya took the oath of office at a ceremony attended by senior members of the Bar and Bench and other dignitaries.

Osigwe administered the oath of office to his successor before formally handing over the leadership of the Association to her.

As part of the transition, the outgoing President presented Badejo-Okusanya with a handover note containing details intended to guide the incoming administration.

“This is your handover note. A more comprehensive one will be given to you later,” Osigwe told his successor as he formally bowed out of office.

The ceremony marked the conclusion of Osigwe’s administration, which began in 2024 when he assumed office as the 32nd President of the NBA.

Badejo-Okusanya’s inauguration formally ushers in a new national administration and begins her tenure as the Association’s 33rd President.

She arrived at the ceremony accompanied by members of her family, including her mother, Clara Folasade Abiodun Olumide.

Also associated with the family is Dr. Olajumoke Oduwole, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, who is Badejo-Okusanya’s sister.

The inauguration followed the conclusion of activities surrounding the NBA’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt and the Association’s Annual General Meeting, where the outgoing administration rendered its final stewardship account.

In his final report to the Association, Osigwe had urged the incoming leadership to preserve the institutional reforms undertaken during his tenure, maintain financial prudence, strengthen the digital transformation of the Bar and continue defending the rule of law and independence of the judiciary.

His formal handover on Friday therefore brought to a close his tenure as the 32nd President and transferred responsibility for the affairs of the Association to Badejo-Okusanya and the newly inaugurated national officers.
