Over 1,200 lawyers will gather in Ilorin, Kwara State, from Friday to Sunday for the 16th Annual Conference of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN), themed “Artificial Intelligence, Law and Religion in Nigeria.” The event, set to explore the intersection of emerging technologies, legal ethics, and religious values, promises to be a landmark gathering for legal professionals across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday at the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal’s conference room, MULAN’s National President, Saidu Tudun-Wada, represented by Second Vice President Tijajni Sanda, described the conference as a pivotal platform for addressing the ethical and legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI). “The theme is not only timely but deeply thought-provoking, as it reflects the need to navigate emerging technologies within the framework of legal ethics, constitutional rights, and religious values,” Sanda stated.

The conference will feature a distinguished lineup of dignitaries, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, SAN. Other notable attendees include Chief Judge of Kwara State Justice Abiodun Adebara, Grand Khadi of Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen, Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Professor Ibrahim Abikan, Professor Yusuf Ali, SAN, and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN.

A highlight of the event will be the keynote address by former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Professor Isa Ali Pantami, who is expected to delve into the ethical implications and religious dimensions of digital technologies in legal practice and governance.

Sanda praised the efforts of Kehinde Eleja, SAN, Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, for ensuring a seamless and impactful event. He highlighted the strategic choice of Ilorin as the host city, noting, “Ilorin, known for its deep-rooted Islamic scholarship and strong legal traditions, represents a confluence of faith and law, making it an ideal setting for such an important national discourse.”

The MULAN President emphasized that the conference is more than an annual gathering; it is a platform for redefining legal consciousness among Muslim lawyers and setting new standards for ethical and intellectual engagement in a rapidly evolving digital world. The event is expected to foster robust discussions and provide actionable insights for navigating AI’s impact on Nigeria’s legal and religious landscapes.
