*Pledges To Bridge Gap Between Academic Training And Legal Practice

Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, a leading candidate for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidency, has released his comprehensive manifesto, outlining his plans to transform the legal profession and prioritize the welfare of young lawyers. Osigwe shared key points from his manifesto through a series of posts on his Twitter handle, emphasizing his commitment to creating a “Proactive Bar.”

Central to Osigwe’s manifesto is his dedication to addressing the critical needs of young legal professionals, ensuring a brighter and more sustainable future for them. He has pledged to advocate for policies that promote fair compensation, benefits, and work-life balance for young lawyers.

Recognizing the challenges faced by young lawyers transitioning from academic training to real-world practice, Osigwe aims to bridge this gap through collaboration with educational institutions and law firms. He also proposes the establishment of a Pilot Working Space scheme to support young lawyers starting their own law firms.

In a bid to enhance professional development opportunities, Osigwe plans to allocate the NBA budget towards secondment programs and foreign exchange programs. These initiatives aim to provide young lawyers with valuable exposure and international experience, ultimately enhancing their skills and competitiveness in the global legal market.

Furthermore, Osigwe has committed to advocating for job creation within the legal sector, recognizing the need for increased employment opportunities for the growing number of young lawyers entering the profession each year.

Osigwe’s manifesto, titled “Proactive Bar,” is available for public access at http://afamosigwe.bar. As the NBA presidential election approaches on July 20, 2024, Osigwe urges lawyers to vote for him, emphasizing his dedication to putting “lawyers first” and his unwavering love for the profession.
