The Nigerian Bar Association will today, Friday, August 28, 2026, formally hand over leadership of the Association to its newly elected National Executive Council at an inauguration ceremony in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The ceremony, which will mark the formal transition from the outgoing national administration to the newly elected leadership, is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Ceremonial Court, High Court Complex, Port Harcourt.

At the ceremony, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, will formally assume office as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, succeeding Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, who has led the Association since 2024.

The handing-over and inauguration will bring the tenure of the outgoing national officers to a formal close and usher in the newly elected national officers who will steer the affairs of the Association for the next administration.

The transition follows the conclusion of the 2026 NBA national elections and comes during activities surrounding the Association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.

The outgoing administration is led by the 32nd President of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, whose two-year tenure commenced in 2024.

Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, and the other newly elected national officers are expected to formally assume their respective responsibilities immediately after the inauguration, marking the beginning of a new leadership cycle in the Association.

The NBA has invited lawyers and other members of the Association to attend the ceremony and witness what it described as a significant occasion in the life of the Bar.

The handing-over and inauguration ceremony will take place at the Ceremonial Court of the Rivers State High Court Complex, Port Harcourt, at 10 a.m. today.
