In a shocking incident on October 18, 2024, armed men claiming to be officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) forcibly entered the home of Edna Ulaeto, a staff member of OrderPaper, and abducted her without explanation according to Lawandsocietymagazine report.

The men violently seized Ulaeto, who was still in her nightwear, and took her to an unknown location, leaving her family and neighbors traumatized.

OrderPaper believes this disturbing act is connected to a recent article that erroneously reported on an alleged DSS invasion of the National Assembly to block an impeachment attempt against the Senate President. Despite swiftly issuing a retraction and apology, masked men ransacked Ulaeto’s belongings and caused immense distress.

Witnesses who tried to document the abduction were threatened with arrest and forced to delete photos and videos. No official notice was provided to Ulaeto or OrderPaper by the DSS or police. Efforts to contact Ulaeto have been unsuccessful, heightening concerns for her well-being.

In a statement, OrderPaper’s management said:

“This brazen, terrifying act has left the entire staff of OrderPaper living in fear, uncertain of what may happen next. We urgently call on the public, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and the international community to demand her immediate release and to ensure her safety. Join us in condemning this unlawful attack on press freedom and basic human rights before it is too late.”
