Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has reacted to the allegations of forgery of electoral results in the 2023 general election in Isikwuato/Umunneochi, saying there is no cause for alarm.

An Abuja High Court had granted leave to the Independent National Electoral Commission to prosecute the minister over alleged forgery of election results during the 2023 general elections in the area.

The ruling followed an ex-parte motion filed by Amobi Ogah, a member of the House of Representatives for Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, against the Minister over alleged falsification of elections results in 62 polling units of the constituency.

Delivering judgement on September 23, 2025, Justice M. G. Umar held that Ogah had provided sufficient grounds and supporting evidence in his affidavit to warrant the court’s approval for INEC to initiate prosecution.

‘’I,m satisfied that the applicant has placed relevant materials in his affidavit in support of this application and this court is persuaded to exercise it discretion in his favour “Justice Umar had held

He added, ‘’An order is hereby made granting leave to the applicant to apply for an Order of Mandamus compelling INEC to investigate and prosecute NkeirukaOnyejeocha, for electoral offences bordering on forgery of election results in polling units within Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State.

Reacting, Ogah said he decided to pursue the case to ensure that no electoral offender went unpunished, insisting that the era of subverting the peoples wish was over.

He vowed to collaborate with the stakeholders and the people to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion, saying it not about himself as person, but the credibility of the electoral process.

However, reacting to the order while speaking with newsmen on phone in Abia on Friday, the minister said her major preoccupation was how to assist President Tinubu deliver on his mandate.

“This is just an ex parte order granting Ogah leave or in normal English, permission to file the main motion on notice to be served on INEC for an order of mandamus or in normal English, a compelling order on INEC to investigate and or prosecute his frivolous claim of forgery of the said polling units result.

“At the tribunal, he could not establish the alleged forgery. A staff of INEC from the IT Department, Abuja, tendered all the alleged forged and the entire polling units result and the tribunal admitted same in evidence as exhibit.

“The witness of Amobi from the legal department of INEC Umuahia under cross examination confirmed that the result tendered by my legal team was certified by INEC and that she signed same.”

She exonerated herself as “not a party to the order and will not be a party in the main motion on notice to be filed where INEC will defend the suit against her by AmaobiOgah” adding, “Hon Onyejeocha is busy, I mean, very busy with my commendable work of assisting Mr president to deliver his Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians. There should be no panic mode, 2027 election will end some ranting”.
