*Says “Wrist Accessories Not Allowed Except Wristwatch, Neat Low Haircuts Required”

The Body of Benchers Nigeria has released an official notice outlining pre-call activities and detailed protocols for aspirants scheduled to be called to the Bar on 25th November 2025, emphasizing strict compliance with accreditation, guest invitations, and dress codes to ensure a smooth and dignified ceremony.

In the notice addressed to all eligible aspirants, the Body of Benchers detailed the following pre-call requirements:

  • Each aspirant must upload the name of their guest on the designated portal via http://caltobar.bob.com.ng.
  • Aspirants who successfully complete the upload are required to collect the invitation card for their guest at the Body of Benchers Complex. Issuance of invitation cards will occur from 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 21st November 2025, until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, 24th November 2025.

For the Call to Bar activities on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, the notice specifies:

  • Accreditation will commence from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on the day of the call.
  • Each aspirant must present their Nigerian Law School ID card for identification, while the invitation card must be accompanied by a valid means of identification.

The notice places particular emphasis on a rigorous dress code to maintain decorum during the proceedings:

Female Aspirants:

  • Black suit with skirt (no trousers), white camisole, white collarless shirt, black covered shoes (no high heels).
  • Lawyer’s gown and wig (to be worn after being called to the Bar); pregnant aspirants may adjust gowns appropriately.
  • Only natural hair is permitted; coloured hair or attachments are not allowed.
  • No artificial nails, no nail polish, no henna, no artificial eyelashes, no heavy makeup.

Male Aspirants:

  • Black suit, plain white shirt, bib, black shoes, lawyer’s wig and gown.
  • Neat low haircuts; wrist accessories are not allowed except a wristwatch.
  • No dark shades (except on medical grounds, which must be supported by a medical report).

Additionally, the notice explicitly states that bags are not allowed, underscoring the need for strict compliance with all outlined instructions.
