The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, following his confirmation by the National Council of State as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement signed by Chief Mela Audu Nunghe, SAN, President of NLS, the association lauded Amupitan’s “impeccable character, profound intellectual capacity, and distinguished record of service in the legal profession.” The NLS highlighted that as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and an esteemed academic, Amupitan brings a rare combination of scholarly expertise, forensic acumen, and deep understanding of constitutional and electoral law to the pivotal role.
“The INEC Chairmanship is one of the most critical and demanding positions in our nation’s democratic architecture,” the statement read. “The Commission’s mandate to deliver free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections is the bedrock of our democracy and the rule of law. We are confident that your leadership, guided by integrity, impartiality, and an unwavering commitment to justice, will significantly strengthen our electoral process and reinforce public confidence in our democratic institutions.”
The NLS also noted with pride that one of its own has been entrusted with this national assignment and pledged the association’s support and collaboration in upholding the sanctity of elections and the rule of law in Nigeria.
Chief Nunghe concluded, “Please accept our best wishes as you embark on this noble service to our nation. Our Association stands ready to offer its support in ensuring that the electoral process remains credible, transparent, and just.”
