The Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association was thrown into uproar following a point of order raised by Okey Wali, SAN during the maiden meeting of the New Executives of the branch currently ongoing at the famous Garden City, Port Harcourt, so it was learnt. The point of order had been raised by the learned Silk against a fellow silk, Paul Usoro SAN, noting that Mr. Usoro is not an adopted Candidate of the Eastern Bar Forum and as such cannot speak in the meeting of an EBF Branch. TheNigerialawyer (TNL) gathered that Mr. Okey Wali refused Mr. Usoro from speaking when he was called upon by the newly elected Port-Harcourt Chair, to greet the house. Mr. Paul Usoro was recognized to take the rostrum before the point of order was raised. But another Senior Advocate and former NBA president, OCJ Okocha SAN urged the Chairman to overrule the point of order and allow Paul Usoro SAN to address the Branch, irrespective of the EBF stance. As at the time this report was filed, Paul Usoro had been granted the audience and was speaking to the members of the branch. TheNigerialawyer recalls that the Governor of the EBF, Arthur Elvis Chukwu had earlier this week written to the Port Harcourt Branch Chairman, that based on a resolution termed the ‘ASABA Resolution’ of all EBF Chairmen, it was agreed that candidates not adopted by the EBF should not be given audience by EBF Branches. The letter was said to have reminded the PH Branch that the adoption of candidates was hosted in Port Harcourt and urged the Branch to comply with his letter.]]>
