A former national officer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Okey Leo Ohagba, has joined voices across the legal and civil society communities to commemorate the 2025 International Human Rights Day, calling for a deeper national commitment to the protection of fundamental rights.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ohagba aligned with the NBA, civil society organizations, and global human rights advocates to mark the annual event, which this year focuses on the theme “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials.”

Ohagba described the theme as a profound reminder that human rights form the core of human dignity, freedom, and equality. He applauded individuals and groups championing social justice across Nigeria and beyond, noting that their efforts continue to inspire hope among vulnerable populations.

“To all courageous crusaders for human rights and social justice, your resilience ignites hope in the oppressed, lights up the path of justice, and inspires us to be more emboldened in pursuit of justice, equality, and fairness,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the 2025 commemoration would reinvigorate collective efforts to uphold and defend the rights of all individuals, stressing that human rights must be protected everywhere and at all times.

“May this day renew our commitment to protect, uplift, and honor the rights of every individual, everywhere and every time,” Ohagba added.

The statement concluded with the former NBA official extending his goodwill message to Nigerians and the global community, wishing them a Happy International Human Rights Day.
