Captain Warriedi Enisuoh, the Executive Director of Operations and Technical Services at Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, has disclosed that oil thieves are employing sophisticated tactics, including the use of CCTV cameras, to monitor the activities of security agencies tasked with curbing oil theft. He made the comment while speaking with DELE OGUNYEMI of PUNCH NEWS.

Enisuoh emphasized the importance of the Federal Government’s bold decision to contract Tantita, as the illegal harnessing of crude oil by a few individuals poses a significant threat to the nation’s economy and security. He noted that the company’s CEO, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, has been working to address the socioeconomic challenges associated with the issue by offering employment to those involved in oil theft in exchange for their commitment to protecting the pipelines.

One of the major challenges highlighted by Enisuoh is the persistent penetration of Nigerian coasts by international ships seeking to obtain free oil. Despite the high cost of pursuing these ships at sea, Tantita, with the assistance of Nigerian security forces, has been relentless in its efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

Enisuoh also revealed that illegal oil bunkerers are becoming more technologically advanced, installing CCTV cameras in their areas of operation to provide early warnings and ambush those attempting to disrupt their illegal activities. In response, Tantita is evolving its own technology, procuring modern detection systems, including anti-intrusion detection systems, to prevent oil theft proactively.

The fight against oil theft recently saw a significant victory as two Federal High Courts in Abuja ordered the forfeiture of two bunkering vessels seized in joint operations by Tantita and other security agencies to the Federal Government. Enisuoh expressed his satisfaction with the landmark judgments, stating that they send a strong signal that Tantita is not alone in this fight and that it is a collective effort by the Federal Government.

Enisuoh called on all Nigerians to play their part in protecting the country’s economy by reporting any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities, including the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or Tantita’s 24-hour helpline. He emphasized that the protection of national assets, particularly hydrocarbons, is the responsibility of every citizen.

Looking to the future, Enisuoh stated that Tantita would continue to abide by the conditions of its contract and take any additional measures necessary to enhance the country’s hydrocarbon security. By ensuring maximum security for investors in the sector, Tantita aims to boost investor confidence and encourage increased production for export, rather than for the benefit of thieves.

When asked about Tompolo’s role as the chief priest of the Egbesu deity in mobilizing locals to support Tantita’s mandate, Enisuoh commended his leadership, noting that he has used his spiritual and traditional influence to galvanize people to join forces and ensure that the government receives the maximum benefit from his leadership in the sector.
