A reputable oil exploration and production company with operations focused on the development of oil fields and midstream assets in the Niger Delta is seeking to recruit a young legal officer as Legal Counsel Oil & Gas Contracts and Compliance.

The position is open to lawyers with 3 to 5 years post-qualification experience to join the company’s Legal and Regulatory Affairs team in Lagos.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading negotiations and drafting high-value contracts, including PSCs, JVAs, OML/OPL transactions, EPC, FPSO, drilling and service agreements.

The role also involves managing complex litigation, arbitration and regulatory investigations or engagements with agencies such as the NUPRC, FIRS and NCDMB.

The company said the candidate will provide transactional support for mergers and acquisitions, farm-ins and farm-outs, asset acquisitions and divestments.

Other responsibilities include developing internal policies, training business teams on legal risks, overseeing external counsel, and supporting corporate governance, board matters and company secretarial duties.

Applicants are required to possess an LLB and BL with first class or second class upper division from a reputable university.

Candidates must also have 3 to 5 years post-qualification experience in a top-tier law firm or in-house oil and gas or energy company.

The company further requires deep knowledge of Nigerian oil and gas law, the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, PSC/JOA structures and regulatory compliance.

Applicants must also have a proven track record in negotiating high-value transactions and managing disputes, strong commercial acumen, excellent drafting and advisory skills, and good stakeholder management ability.

Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association is required, while possession of an LL.M, ACArb or CIPM qualification will be an advantage.

The company also said applicants must demonstrate high integrity, confidentiality and ability to work with executives.

The role is based in Lagos, Nigeria, with a hybrid work arrangement.

The employment type is full-time, with a competitive package, HMO and performance bonus.
