Nyada Auta, a candidate for the position of National Welfare Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has called for the association to prioritize strategic partnerships to enhance the welfare of its members.

In a recent statement, Auta emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NBA and various agencies and corporate bodies to address the challenges faced by lawyers in Nigeria.

Auta highlighted the successful partnership between the NBA and Access Bank, which introduced the Bar Card, serving as both an identity card and a financial lifeline for lawyers. The Bar Card offers exclusive discounts and privileges to lawyers who pay their practicing fees on time. Auta believes that this innovation should be expanded, with variants of rebates for lawyers across the board, including partnerships with logistics companies to provide transportation rebates.

The candidate stressed the need for the NBA to cultivate strategic partnerships with financial institutions to offer low-interest loans, mortgage facilities, and conference sponsorships. These initiatives aim to alleviate the financial challenges faced by NBA members and enhance their overall well-being and professional experiences.

Auta also called for the NBA to engage the downstream sector to secure sponsorships for free Continuing Legal Education (CLE) trainings both within and outside Nigeria. By providing access to CLE in emerging areas, the association can empower its members to stay abreast of the rapidly evolving legal landscape and thrive in their chosen specialized fields.

Quoting Nelson Mandela, Auta emphasized the importance of education as a powerful tool for change. He urged the NBA to take the issue of CLE seriously and seek innovative ways to improve the existing platform. Auta also acknowledged the concerns regarding the hike in this year’s conference fees and suggested that strategic partnerships could translate into conference sponsorships, making the event more accessible to members.

As a team player, Auta expressed his commitment to achieving the suggested visions and supporting any initiatives introduced by the NBA President and other national officers. He believes that by earnestly considering these partnership recommendations, the NBA can deliver an association that works for all and caters to the welfare needs of its members.

Auta’s call for strategic partnerships and a focus on member welfare comes at a crucial time for the Nigerian legal community, as lawyers face various challenges in their professional lives. The candidate’s vision aims to strengthen the NBA’s role in supporting its members and ensuring that they truly benefit from being part of the association.
