The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has expressed profound sadness and outrage over the murder of Mr. Chinedu Nwowu, a prominent lawyer, who was brutally killed on January 22, 2025, in Mgbidi, Imo State.

In a statement, Osigwe described the killing as a grievous loss to Mr. Nwowu’s family, the legal community, and society at large. He labeled the incident an attack on both the legal profession and humanity, calling attention to the broader issue of insecurity across Nigeria.

“The NBA unequivocally condemns this senseless act of violence and calls on the relevant security agencies to expedite their investigation and ensure that those responsible are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,” Osigwe said.

To intensify efforts in ensuring justice, the NBA has directed its branches in Imo State to collaborate with law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and stakeholders to uncover the circumstances surrounding Mr. Nwowu’s murder.

Osigwe further emphasized the need for vigilance among members of the bar, urging them to take necessary precautions while carrying out their duties.

The NBA reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a secure environment where legal professionals can work without fear or intimidation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Chinedu Nwowu during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace,” Osigwe concluded.

The NBA vowed to ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law, reiterating its dedication to justice and the safety of its members nationwide.
