In a heart-wrenching viral video that has sparked outrage across social media, a dedicated court registrar at the Chief Magistrate Court in Neni, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, lamented the relentless downpour infiltrating the dilapidated courtroom through a severely leaking roof.

The footage, which has garnered thousands of views since surfacing earlier this week, shows the registrar braving the elements to continue her duties, as rainwater soaks critical court materials, including registers and legal documents, threatening the integrity of ongoing judicial proceedings.

Undeterred by the deluge, the official expressed frustration at the lack of intervention from both government and individuals. “Judiciary is still under pressure. Look at the records. This is my seat at the magistrate court. I had to do this just to work today. Nothing would have stopped me from leaving, but I cannot leave. These are my people. They are my constituency. We have to wait for this to pass and then continue,” she said. She described the situation as “terrible” and highlighted the impact on daily court operations.

The video’s virality has drawn mixed reactions from the legal community. A lawyer from the Delta State judicial division, who viewed the clip, offered a stark comparative perspective on social media: “This is a fine magistrate court. I can show worse in Delta State.” His comment underscores the pervasive neglect across states, suggesting that Neni’s plight is far from isolated.

TheNigeriaLawyer reports that complaints about the conditions of the Chief Magistrate Court in Neni are not new. In light of the viral clip, the publication has revealed the location and name of the court to draw the attention of the state judiciary and relevant authorities. The move aims to spur action to address the deteriorating infrastructure, protect court materials, and ensure safe working conditions for judicial staff.

Amid escalating complaints about court conditions nationwide, TheNigeriaLawyer will be launching “Operation Show Court,” an initiative aimed at documenting and publicizing dilapidated judicial facilities by sharing specific locations, court names, and photographic evidence. The campaign seeks to draw the urgent attention of state chief judges and judicial service commissions, pressuring authorities to implement immediate renovations and allocate necessary funding.

Officials in Anambra State have yet to respond to the viral video or comment on plans for urgent repairs.
