The Nigerian Army last night dismissed the allegation by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum that there was sabotage in the counter-insurgency operation.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, debunked the allegation when he featured on Channels Television programme Politics Today.

He said: “Of course, if you’ve operated with an enemy for some time, we call it enemy-habit, from that analysis estimate, it was purely that of the enemies in that area. From the tactics, maneuver exhibited, it was theirs.

“I can confidently tell the public that it is not the sabotage from the tactical operation at our strategic level – that is if we want to range it from rank.

“So, it’s an issue that has to be frowned at by all the stakeholders. Let them be reassured that we’re bound with oath of allegiance from the Commander-in-Chief and the Constitution to secure the country.”

Zulum had insisted that there is sabotage in the fight against insurgency.

The governor spoke in Maiduguri on Sunday while receiving a delegation of the All Progressives Congress Governors Forum led by Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu, over the last Wednesday’s ambush by insurgents on his convoy when he visited Baga town.

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to re-examine the security situation in the state saying, “There is sabotage in this operation that didn’t allow the insurgency to end.

“The president has to know this because this is the bitter truth. When he came to Maiduguri sometime ago, I think I said so, but notwithstanding, there is a very important question that we need to ask: why is the insurgency not ending?

“There is sabotage in the system and there is a need for the president to re-examine the current security situation with a view to resolving it in a better manner.

“There is a need for us to articulate our position to push the Nigerian military to ensure we can deliver on our promises,” he said.
