The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has dismissed as misleading and untrue insinuations that there are links between Coronavirus pandemic and 5G Technology, stressing that there are no such links.

Its Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Henry Nkemadu, said it had become necessary for the commission to clarify misleading materials regarding the 5G Technology.

He said in a statement that Nigeria had not deployed the 5G Technology, but only approved the conduct of trial test for three months in November last year.

Nkemadu added that after the conduct of the test trial, the installations were decommissioned by the government.

“The trial among others was to study and observe  any health or security challenges the 5G network might present. Relevant stakeholders including members of the security agencies were invited to participate during the trial,” he said.

Nkemadu noted that the NCC would “continue to maintain its policy of technology neutrality and will continue to encourage Service providers to deploy the best technology that will meet the needs of the society in a secure and friendly manner.”
