The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the West African Examinations Council have introduced a one-off ₦4,000 fee for the verification of candidates’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination results during admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC O’Level results once through the designated JAMB Verification Service platform.
The verification outcome will subsequently be made available to the university, polytechnic, college of education or other tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
JAMB and WAEC, in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, said the ₦4,000 payment must be made only through the specified verification platform and not directly to individual institutions.
The examination bodies directed tertiary institutions to rely on the verified results supplied through JAMB for admission screening, processing and other administrative purposes.
Consequently, institutions are prohibited from asking candidates to pay additional fees to verify the same WAEC result again.
“This arrangement is designed to ensure that candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise,” the bodies said.
The policy follows consultations between JAMB and WAEC over concerns that candidates were being subjected to repeated verification exercises and charges by different institutions during the admission process.
WAEC has consequently authorised JAMB to share the outcome of a candidate’s verification exercise with the relevant institution for admission-related purposes.
The two bodies said the arrangement would reduce the financial and logistical burdens faced by admission seekers while protecting the authenticity and security of their academic records.
Candidates can initiate the verification process from their homes or any internet-enabled location without repeatedly visiting tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
The verification service presently covers results issued by WAEC, with candidates required to provide their National Identification Number and relevant examination details.
After successful payment and verification, candidates will receive a verification code which can be used to upload the authenticated result to their JAMB profiles.
Candidates are expected to send “VERIFY,” followed by the verification code, to 55019 or 66019 using the telephone number linked to their JAMB profiles.
Those presenting results from two sittings will be directed to their JAMB e-Facility dashboards, where they can select the required subjects from the verified results.
JAMB had earlier clarified that candidates who successfully uploaded their O’Level results under the previous system would not be required to upload them again or obtain new verification codes solely because of the introduction of the new service.
It said results uploaded under the former system remained valid and would continue to be recognised for admission purposes, subject to any necessary verification.
JAMB and WAEC advised candidates not to pay the ₦4,000 fee to tertiary institutions or unauthorised individuals, stressing that payment should be made only through the approved verification platform.
They urged institutions to comply with the arrangement by using the verified records supplied through JAMB instead of imposing additional verification exercises and charges on applicants.
The agencies said the collaboration was designed to put candidates’ interests first, eliminate unnecessary expenses, reduce administrative stress and simplify admission processing while preserving the integrity of academic credentials.
