Concerned elders and financial members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nyanya-Karu Branch, have issued a strong public disclaimer disowning an alleged unauthorized plan by the outgoing Branch Chairman, Mr. Augustine Ibolo, to organize a Law Week event without the Branch’s approval, just weeks before the end of his tenure.

In a disclaimer dated May 24, 2025, the members dissociated themselves from a recent publication by one Mr. Henry Tawo Ebu, who claimed to be the Chairman of the Law Week Committee. The publication announced a proposed NBA Nyanya-Karu Law Week scheduled for June 13 to 19, 2025.

However, the concerned members stated categorically that no such committee was ever constituted, ratified, or approved by the Branch. They described the announcement as false, misleading, and lacking any legitimacy.

The disclaimer also emphasized that there is no agreed plan to hold a Law Week in 2025, and no such matter has been deliberated or approved at any Branch meeting. The alleged appointment of Mr. Ebu as Committee Chairman, they noted, was unknown to the Branch and without legal or procedural basis.

Significantly, the proposed Law Week dates directly clash with the officially scheduled NBA Nyanya-Karu Branch Election Week, set for June 14 to 19, 2025, by the Branch Electoral Committee. The members described this overlap as a deliberate attempt by the outgoing Chairman to interfere with the electoral process and prolong his influence over Branch affairs.

They reaffirmed their full confidence in the Electoral Committee and its mandate to conduct a free, fair, and credible election, warning that any act intended to derail the process would not be tolerated.

Adding to their concerns, the members highlighted that the financial report for the 2024 Law Week, which was organized under Mr. Ibolo’s administration, has not been presented despite multiple demands for transparency. This lingering lack of accountability has fueled further suspicion over the motives behind the new, unauthorized Law Week plan.

The concerned members issued a firm warning to the general public, legal practitioners, sponsors, and stakeholders to refrain from engaging with Mr. Ibolo or Mr. Ebu in connection with the purported event. They emphasized that any engagement with the duo in this regard would be done entirely at the individual’s or organization’s own risk.
