The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as fabricated a viral letter alleging that Governor Uba Sani approved and released ₦2.3 trillion for the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign flag-off, describing the document as fraudulent, financially implausible and designed to mislead the public.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna, saying the purported letter contained several inconsistencies that cast doubt on its authenticity.

The document, dated October 18, 2026, and titled “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” was said to have been addressed to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

According to Maiyaki, the letter falsely claimed that ₦2.3 trillion had been released for the campaign flag-off.

He said the claim was impossible to reconcile with Kaduna State’s 2026 budget of ₦985.92 billion, noting that the alleged campaign expenditure was more than twice the state’s entire annual budget.

Maiyaki said there was no authentic appropriation, approval or expenditure record supporting the claim.

He also pointed to irregularities in the document, including the misspelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and what he described as the unauthorised reproduction of Governor Sani’s signature.

“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Gov. Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no ₦2.3 trillion was budgeted, approved or released,” he said.

The Commissioner described the allegation as fictitious and part of what he said was an attempt to damage the governor’s reputation for fiscal discipline, transparency and responsible management of public resources.

Maiyaki said that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the administration had prioritised investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection.

He expressed concern over what he described as coordinated misinformation aimed at discrediting the governor and his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the fabrication of official correspondence and circulation of false financial claims could amount to criminal offences.

“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law,” Maiyaki said, urging critics and political actors to rely on verifiable evidence when questioning government expenditure.

He disclosed that steps were being taken to establish the origin of the purported letter and called on security and investigative agencies to examine the document.

Maiyaki said anyone found responsible for fabricating or circulating the document should be made to face appropriate legal consequences.

He also urged media organisations and members of the public to verify documents before publishing or circulating allegations relating to public expenditure.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to prudent financial management, peace, infrastructure development, institutional strengthening and citizens’ welfare, saying the government would remain focused on governance despite what it described as deliberate misinformation.
