“The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, sudden decision to call-off proposed strike is a sellout and clear-cut betrayal of Nigerians.”

This is according to the former 2nd Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Monday Ubani.

Ubani believes the NLC should have waited till noon on Monday, September 28, 2020, to explain to the people why it’s calling off the strike, after reaching an agreement with the government, before postponing the strike.

“Since labour has involved and mobilized Nigerians for the proposed strike or protest, if it has integrity, good name and intention, what it should have done, is to come back to the same people and explain the reason it’s calling off the strike, after reaching an agreement with the government.

“They should not have called off the strike on their own at midnight. They should have waited till noon today to explain to the people the reason they are calling of the strike.”

The Human Rights Advocate also says it’s wrong to have mobilized Nigerians in preparations for the strike and then dash their expectations.

“The people were kept totally in darkness. This is one of those times that Nigerians look at labour leaders, as people who are after their pockets and stomach, and a sellout.”

He says he is personally alarmed at the quality of leadership at NLC.

“Clearly this is a sell-out and I feel totally betrayed and personally alarmed at the quality of leadership at NLC. We have lost it completely. And I do not think Nigerians were initially interested in any strike, because I was not interested in any. I know it won’t hold, because the labour leaders are deceivers.

“I have never posted anything about this particular proposed strike or protest before now, because I know they will sellout.

“I’m not surprised it happened. We do not have labour leaders in Nigeria. Nigerians must organized themselves to fight, in order to liberate this country, that’s what I will advise.

“In case of anytime we feel aggrieved, and we feel the Nigerian government is not getting it right, we need to come together in the manner we did during the fuel subsidy protest during Jonathan’s government with one spirit and one heart, not relying on labour.”

Ubani also claims the organized labour has always been a sellout and betrayer of the people.

“In fact, it was when labour get involved in the fuel subsidy protest, during Jonathan’s government that the protest was compromised.

“Labour has always been a sellout. They have always betrayed the people and will continue to do that except the people open their eyes, and then take their destines, in their hands.”
