The Naval Headquarters has issued a statement debunking false reports circulating on various online media platforms regarding the alleged refusal of Vice Admiral AZ Gambo CFR, the outgoing Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), to hand over to Rear Admiral EI Ogalla, the incoming Chief of the Naval Staff.

The reports, published by media outlets such as Peoples Gazette, opr.news, and hallmarknews, have been labeled as misleading and filled with falsehoods that could misinform the public.

According to the Naval Headquarters, the process of handing and taking over in the Nigerian Navy follows a well-established procedure. Upon the announcement of the change in leadership, the outgoing CNS is obligated to provide a comprehensive briefing to the incoming CNS, conduct tours of key naval facilities, and perform the ceremonial lowering of the ensign.

These steps are part of the age-old naval tradition leading up to the formal handing and taking over ceremony.

In light of this, the Naval Headquarters has confirmed that the program of events for the transition is already underway and will culminate in a public ceremony scheduled for Friday, June 23, 2023. This adherence to tradition ensures a seamless transition and continuity of operations within the Nigerian Navy.

Furthermore, it is important to note that sister Services are also expected to conduct their respective handover ceremonies, with specific dates set aside for these events.

The Naval Headquarters urges members of the public to disregard the malicious publication and dismiss the erroneous information as nothing more than the imagination of the reporter. The Director of Information, Commodore, emphasized the Navy’s commitment to upholding transparency and keeping the public informed accurately.

As the Nigerian Navy prepares for the formal transition of leadership, it remains dedicated to its mission of safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests and maintaining peace and security along its waters.
