The Chairman of the branch Bulus Atsen, made this remark on Thursday, in his Independence’s Day message.

NBA ABUJA BRANCH INDEPENDENCE MESSAGE
Nigeria is a nation of great people and diverse cultures. Our national journey has been characterised by different challenges and opportunities, most of which were wasted. Today marks the beginning of another opportunity to redirect our individual and collective energy in building the kind of society we have always yearned for. Nigerians deserve a society where the citizens are accountable to one another and where the government is accountable to the law and the people.
The task of nation-building is not the exclusive preserve of any group of persons, but a collective responsibility of all citizens. Our resolve and determination to create a viable society will only be attainable when we, as Nigerians, hold the government and one another to account. Nigeria, like other countries, reflects its citizens and a change in the civic disposition of the citizens will, surely, go a long way in entrenching good governance across every strata of government. The truism has been established that no nation can be greater than its people.
Lawyers, as agents of social engineering have a pivotal role to play in redesigning and reshaping Nigeria. I therefore use this auspicious day of our nation’s 60th Independence Day Anniversary to invite us to reflect on our individual and collective contributions in nation-building and the much that we can do.
I wish us all a happy 60th Independence Anniversary.
