The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has said the revised Nigeria’s procurement documents will help in the fight against corruption and minimise procurement crimes.

This was disclosed in an interview by the Director, Energy Infrastructure, BPP, Mr Babatunde Kuye, who represented the Director General of the Bureau, Alhaji Mamman Ahmadu, in Lagos at a stakeholders’ workshop on the review of draft standard bidding and contract documents being used for the procurement of goods, works and services.
While noting that the documents currently being used were developed in 2009 and last updated in 2011, Kuye said the review will help address identified challenges and inadequacies.
“As I have said before, these inadequacies were observed during the usage of the document by stakeholders, specifically procurement and contracting officers. For instance, the present document does not fully cater for new trends in Information Technology and we are about deploying electronic procurement in Nigeria,” he said in an interview on the sideline of the workshop.
Earlier in his speech, the DG said the ultimate objective of revising the documents was to ensure transparency and promote competition.
“The draft procurement documents have been produced and shared with relevant stakeholders. The aim is to create an opportunity to harvest valuable input from all public procurement stakeholders,” he said.
He urged the stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing procurement reform towards ensuring national development driven by public procurement.
Similar stakeholders’ workshops have been held in Kano, Port Harcourt and Abuja.
