The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Warri Branch is set to host a virtual webinar titled “Unlocking New Horizons: Opportunities for Legal Practitioners in Nigeria’s Energy Transition (Gas, Electric Power and Renewables).” The two-day event, scheduled for Tuesday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, will feature Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo, SAN, as the keynote speaker.

Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo, SAN, is a renowned legal practitioner and partner at Tayo Oyetibo LP, where he heads the firm’s Arbitration and Commercial Litigation practice. A graduate of the University of Leeds, he holds a Masters’ Degree in Commercial Law from the University of Bristol and has completed the Leading Professional Service Firms course at Harvard Business School. He is also an alumnus of the Institute of Maritime Law at the University of Southampton.

Tayo-Oyetibo is widely recognized as a leading expert in domestic and international disputes covering various areas, including banking, commercial crime, contracts, corporate insolvency, marine and general insurance, securities, shipping, international trade, and oil and gas. He played a crucial role as a member of the consortium of Nigerian counsel that advised and represented the Federal Government of Nigeria in setting aside an arbitral award of $6.6 billion, which had risen to more than $11 billion after interest – the largest ever award made against Nigeria.

The Learned Silk is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Directors, International Council for Commercial Arbitration, Institute for Transnational Arbitration, Lagos Court of Arbitration, and the International Law Association, where he chairs the Committee on International Law and New Technologies. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK) and Prime Disputes, and serves on the Panel of Neutrals of the Nigerian Communications Commission and World Intellectual Property Organization.

The webinar, which is open to legal practitioners and interested individuals, aims to explore the opportunities available in Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape, particularly in the areas of gas, electric power, and renewables.
