The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Warri Branch is set to host a crucial energy webinar titled “Unlocking New Horizons: Opportunities for Legal Practitioners in Nigeria’s Energy Transition (Gas, Electric Power and Renewables).” The two-day event, scheduled for Tuesday, November 26th, and Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, promises to provide valuable insights into the evolving landscape of Nigeria’s energy sector and the role of legal practitioners in this transition.

Leading the discussion will be none other than the distinguished transactional lawyer, George Etomi, Founding Partner of the law firm George Etomi and Partners. With an impressive 41 years of experience in commercial transactions spanning Energy and Natural Resources Law, Aviation Law, Building and Construction Law, Banking and Finance Law, Arbitration, Telecommunications, Legislative Drafting, and Competition Law Policy, Etomi brings a wealth of knowledge to the table.

Etomi’s educational background is equally impressive, having earned a Master of Laws Degree from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1978 and being called to the Nigerian Bar in 1977. He further honed his skills by completing the Chief Executive Programme at the Lagos Business School in 1998.

As a testament to his leadership and expertise, Etomi has held several notable positions within the legal profession. He served as the Pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) and is currently a Member of the Body of Benchers, Nigeria’s highest regulatory body of the Legal Profession. Additionally, he serves as a Director at Eko Electricity Distribution PLC in Lagos and is a Special Adviser to the International Trade in Legal Services Committee of the Bar Issues Commission of the International Bar Association (IBA).

George Etomi’s extensive experience and contributions to the legal profession have not gone unnoticed. In 2013, he was named a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (FNIALS), and the institute honored him by naming a center after him: “The George Etomi Centre for Strategic Investment and Corporate Governance.” An academic chair is also endowed in his name at the institute. In 2014, the Federal Republic of Nigeria conferred upon him the National Productivity Order of Merit Award for his significant contributions to the development of law.

As a published author, Etomi has shared his insights through numerous articles and newspaper publications. His book, “An Introduction to Commercial Law in Nigeria,” is a testament to his decades of experience in commercial law practice in Nigeria.
