*Calls on Affected Members to Submit Details for Possible IBA Conference Fee Reallocation

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is advocating for its members who were unable to attend the International Bar Association (IBA) Conferences in 2022 and 2023 due to visa-related issues, according to a statement released by the NBA General Secretary, Adesina Adegbite FCIMC, MCIArb.

At the IBA Council meeting held in Paris on November 2, 2023, NBA President Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau OON, SAN appealed to the IBA Council to consider applying the conference fees paid by the affected members to future IBA Conference registrations.

The request was made on behalf of Nigerian lawyers who had registered for the 2022 and 2023 IBA Conferences in Miami and Paris respectively but were unable to attend due to visa denials or delays in securing visa appointments.

In response to the NBA President’s appeal, the IBA’s Bar Issues Commission has requested a list of the affected members to facilitate a possible resolution at the upcoming Council meeting in Bucharest on May 25, 2024.

The NBA General Secretary has advised affected colleagues to forward their details, along with proof of registration, to the NBA Secretariat no later than Monday, May 20, 2024. The details should be sent to info@nigerianbar.org.ng or barservices@nigerianbar.org.ng.
