The Mid-West Bar Forum, representing Delta and Edo States, has officially conceded the office of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to the South-West zone for the 2026 general elections.

In a formal letter addressed to NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, the Forum, led by Olukunle Edun, SAN (Chairman), and Mr. Kelly Ogbe (Secretary), affirmed its support for the rotational arrangement of NBA national offices as stipulated in the NBA Constitution, 2021 (as amended).

The Forum noted that it produced the NBA President in 2020 through Mr. Olumide Akpata and that, in accordance with Article 10(5) and Paragraph 4, Part IV of the Second Schedule of the Constitution, the 2026 presidency has now been zoned to the West, covering South-West and Mid-West regions.

Consequently, the Mid-West Bar Forum has directed its members who were aspiring for the NBA presidency Mr. John Aikpokpo-Martins (former 1st Vice President) and Mrs. Mandy Asagba (former 3rd Vice President) to step down in compliance with the concession.

The Forum stressed that it will be the sole producer of NBA presidential candidates in 2032, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the rotational arrangement and fostering unity within the legal profession.

The Mid-West Bar Forum also informed the NBA President, the National Executive Council, and relevant branch chairmen of its position, emphasising that the move aligns with the spirit and intendment of the NBA Constitution.
