The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has invited eligible members to apply for the 2026 Global Lawyers Fellowship Programme (GLFP), scheduled to hold at O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat, India, from December 1 to 7, 2026.

The Association said applications for the programme opened on August 11 and will close on August 20, 2026, urging interested members to submit their applications before the deadline.

According to the announcement, the fellowship is designed to expose Nigerian lawyers to global best practices in advocacy, arbitration, negotiation, dispute resolution, emerging legal technologies and comparative legal systems.

The programme is also expected to provide participants with opportunities to interact and network with legal professionals from different jurisdictions while broadening their understanding of international legal practice.

Selected participants will receive support covering accommodation, meals, local transportation and airport transfers within the Delhi/National Capital Region.

The NBA, however, clarified that the support package does not cover international airfare, visa fees, travel insurance or other personal expenses, which successful applicants will be required to bear themselves.

The Association encouraged eligible members to take advantage of the programme as an opportunity for professional development and international exposure, while also representing the Nigerian Bar on a global platform.

Applications are to be submitted through the designated online application form on or before August 20, 2026. [Application Link: https://forms.gle/F1ZNCrWcRf9K2UeS9]

The announcement was signed by Stella Charles Akupue, identified as Communication Officer of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The mode of communication, however, raises a question as to why an official announcement of the Association of this nature was issued through a “Communication Officer” rather than the office of the National Publicity Secretary, which ordinarily serves as the Association’s principal publicity and public communication office.

It was not immediately clear from the notice whether Akupue was issuing the announcement on behalf of the National Publicity Secretary, the NBA President, a specific committee overseeing the fellowship, or another authorised organ of the Association.

Clarification from the NBA may therefore be necessary on the communication structure under which the notice was released and the respective roles of the Communication Officer and the National Publicity Secretary in issuing official statements of the Association.
