*Urge NBA To Reconsider AGC Registration Fees

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ohafia Branch, has expressed strong disapproval of the high registration fees set for the 2024 Annual General Conference (AGC) scheduled to take place in Lagos.

In an open letter addressed to the NBA President, the branch conveyed the concerns of its members regarding the financial burden posed by the fees.

Oko Ebe Uche, Esq., representing the NBA Ohafia Branch, stated that the exorbitant fees would make it extremely challenging for many members, particularly young lawyers and those from smaller firms, to attend the conference. The branch emphasized the importance of the AGC as a platform for networking, engaging in meaningful discussions, and exchanging ideas on the future of the legal profession. However, the high costs associated with attending the event are likely to create a significant barrier for many members.

The NBA Ohafia Branch strongly condemned the excessive registration fees, asserting that they would hinder access to professional development opportunities for a large portion of the legal community. The branch urged the NBA to reconsider the fees, taking into account the financial constraints faced by many members.

Furthermore, the branch called upon the Association to explore ways to encourage greater participation from lawyers across the country, including those from smaller firms and less privileged backgrounds. The open letter urged the organizers to make necessary adjustments to ensure that the AGC is accessible to all members of the legal profession.

The NBA Ohafia Branch’s protest letter highlights the concerns shared by many lawyers who fear that the high registration fees will create a divide within the legal community, favoring those with greater financial means.

The branch’s appeal to the NBA President underscores the need for a more inclusive approach to the AGC, ensuring that all members have an equal opportunity to benefit from the event’s valuable resources and networking opportunities.
