The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, has established an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the fire that devastated AfriLand Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on September 16, 2025.
The tragic blaze claimed several lives, including that of NBA member Mrs. Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke.
In a statement signed by the Branch Chairman, Mrs. Uchenna Ogunedo-Akingbade, the NBA said the panel is part of its mandate to uphold the rule of law and protect fundamental human rights. âThe panel will probe the circumstances surrounding the fire, assess compliance with safety standards, and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences,â the statement read.
The inquiry panel is chaired by Nonso Azih, with Vivian Okoh-Olutunfese as Alternate Chair and Dan Whisky as Secretary. Other members include Theophilus Alao, Maduka Onwukeme, and Fola Akintunde.
Akingbade said the Lagos Branch expects the panelâs findings and recommendations to promote accountability and enhance public safety. âWe look forward to their findings and recommendations,â she added.
