The Nigerian Bar Association’s Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) is organising a one-day intellectual property (IP) law training for lawyers in Anambra State. The training will take place at the Louis Mbanefo Bar Centre in Onitsha this Thursday, March 7, 2024.

According to Tobenna Erojikwe, Chairman of the Governing Board of the NBA-ICLE, “The objective of this training is to encourage practice diversification among lawyers in Anambra State, especially those practicing in Onitsha.”

Erojikwe explained the rationale for choosing Onitsha as the training location. “Data from the trademark registry shows that the highest number of trademark applications in Nigeria are from Onitsha. It is therefore imperative that the lawyers who practice in this city are properly equipped with the relevant skills to serve their clients’ IP needs,” he said.

The training will cover key topics in intellectual property law, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and trade secrets. “We have assembled a faculty of leading IP law experts to facilitate the sessions,” Erojikwe noted.

Renowned IP law practitioners Prof. Bankole Sodipo, SAN, Ngozi Aderebigbe, and Chinasa Uwanna will lead the training. “This is a great opportunity for lawyers in Onitsha and Anambra State to expand their legal expertise,” Erojikwe added.

Registration for the training is open to all interested lawyers. “We encourage legal practitioners in Onitsha and surrounding areas to take advantage of this training. It will boost their capacity in the fast-evolving field of IP law,” Erojikwe said.

The Nigerian Bar Association’s Onitsha Branch is collaborating with NBA-ICLE to organise the event.

Erojikwe emphasised NBA-ICLE’s commitment to enhancing legal practice across Nigeria. “We hope this IP law training in Onitsha will positively impact businesses relying on intellectual property assets and ultimately strengthen IP law practice in the southeast,” he concluded.

The training highlights NBA-ICLE’s commitment to building the capacity of legal practitioners across Nigeria. It is expected to boost IP law practice and positively impact businesses relying on IP assets in Onitsha and the southeast.
