NBA GS, Jonathan Taidi Reacts To Birth Of Arewa-YLF, Says Formation Must Be Properly Made

* Creation Of Arewa Young Lawyers Forum Should Not Be Constituted By Chairmen Of YLF * Enjoins Excos To Stop Parading Themselves Until Properly Formed The General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Jonathan Gunu Taidi Esq., has reacted to the online publication on the birth of a forum known as the AREWA Young Lawyers’ Forum. In a press statement, Mr. Taidi has affirmed that though he was present at the meeting, his being there was for a different purpose and not as a guest. According to him, be wasn’t aware of the intent of the meeting. Affirming the soundness of the idea behind the formation of the forum, he stated that the formation must be properly made. See his full statement: My attention has been drawn to an online publication about the birth of an “Arewa Young Lawyers’ Forum” and the election of its pioneer leaders where it was reported that I was there as a guest. I was indeed there briefly. But for a different reason, not as a guest. It was during the NBA AGC 2018. I was called upon by OD Jimoh Esq., the Chairman YLF Ilorin branch that some YLF chairmen wanted to congratulate me on my emergence as the General Secretary of NBA. I met them. They congratulated me. I thanked them took photographs, and left. I was never aware about the intent and purpose of the meeting and no-one brought that to my attention. I was only there to be congratulated, no more, no less. Having said that, I think the idea of having Arewa Young Lawyers’ Forum is a good one. However, the formation of the forum has to be properly made. Arewa Young Lawyers’ Forum should be a creation of the Arewa Lawyers’ Forum, not of the YLF branch chairmen from Arewa. The executives of Arewa Lawyers’ Forum are competent and dynamic. I believe they can sit down and deliberate on the possibility of having a forum for Arewa young lawyers. Until then, I hereby call on those parading themselves as pioneer leaders of the Forum to refrain from doing that. It is premature at this stage for anyone to parade himself, or herself for that matter, as a leader of Arewa Young Lawyers’ Forum. Long live the Nigerian Bar Association!
