The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ado-Ekiti Branch, Dr. Taiwo Omidoyin, has announced the launch of a 14-day sensitization program aimed at raising awareness on the issue of domestic violence against men in Ekiti State.

The initiative, titled “Town Crier Sensitization on Domestic Violence Against Men,” will begin on Monday, March 3, 2025, and run for two weeks.

Dr. Omidoyin stressed the importance of legal professionals taking an active role in tackling pressing societal issues and offering lasting solutions. He noted that domestic violence against men is an increasingly alarming problem that must be addressed before it becomes a dangerous, unchecked epidemic. While often overlooked, he highlighted that men, just like women, are entitled to dignity and freedom from harm.

The sensitization campaign will involve a series of public engagements, including jingles and interviews on major radio stations across Ekiti State. Additionally, one-on-one community interactions will be organized, engaging community leaders, religious leaders, security agencies, market women, and other local stakeholders. The primary aim of these efforts is to challenge the widely held misconception that men cannot be victims of domestic violence, emphasizing that this is a real issue that requires urgent attention.

To further support the initiative, a dedicated help desk will be set up at the NBA Secretariat, where members of the public can report cases and seek assistance regarding domestic violence.

The sensitization program will run for 14 days, starting from Monday, March 3, 2025. The NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch is committed to creating awareness and providing a platform for men to come forward and speak out about domestic violence, encouraging societal change and legal intervention.

Dr. Taiwo Omidoyin, Chairman of the NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch, called for widespread support from all members of the legal community, urging colleagues, religious leaders, and community heads to join in the mission to eradicate domestic violence in the state.
