President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, amid allegations of certificate forgery.
Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation on Monday, citing persistent blackmail from political opponents. In his letter to the President, the former minister expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation, describing his tenure as a period of valuable public service.
“Mr. President, I wish to thank you for the confidence reposed in me and for the privilege to serve our great country,” Nnaji stated in his resignation letter. “However, recent political attacks and attempts to malign my character have necessitated my decision to step aside.”
Confirming the development in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu acknowledged Nnaji’s resignation and commended his contributions to the administration’s innovation and technology agenda.
“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours,” the statement read.
Nnaji’s resignation comes as investigations reportedly continue into allegations concerning discrepancies in his academic credentials, though no formal charges have been announced.
