J-K Gadzama LLP, founded by renowned Bar Leader and Life Bencher, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, successfully hosted its 9th Annual Moot and Mock Trial Session for Nigerian Law School externs on Wednesday, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to nurturing young legal practitioners.

The event, held at the Hon. Justice Niki Tobi Moot Court on the pentfloor of J-K Gadzama Court—a courtroom generously donated by Chief Gadzama for training law students—provided a platform for practical advocacy and courtroom skills development.

Presiding over the session was Hon. Justice S. B. Belgore, representing the Chief Judge of the High Court of the FCT. Distinguished guests included Dr. Esa Onoja, representing the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School; Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN; and Mr. Erekere Felix, representing the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, JSC (Rtd).

Twelve externs participated actively in the session, assuming roles such as registrar, clerk, witnesses, and counsel for both claimant and defendant. The externs delivered impressive arguments, particularly on a preliminary objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction and the admissibility of certain documents, which the court reserved for ruling. Each team also presented a witness and tendered documents in evidence before the court adjourned for judgment sine die.

Hon. Justice Belgore commended Chief Gadzama and his firm for their continued efforts in mentoring young lawyers, describing the initiative as a “valuable opportunity for practical legal training.” Mr. Erekere Felix praised the Learned Silk for providing the externs with a rare platform to sharpen their advocacy skills, urging them to maximize the experience. Dr. Esa Onoja also lauded Chief Gadzama for his enduring dedication to the professional development of law students and young lawyers.

In his remarks, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, expressed gratitude to Hon. Justice Belgore and reflected on the inspiration behind the program. Recalling his own experiences as a law student in the 1980s under Hon. Justice Niki Tobi, Chief Gadzama noted that naming the moot court after the late jurist was a fitting tribute to his influence. He also commended the externs for their exemplary participation, reiterating his commitment to mentorship and capacity building within the legal profession.

The 9th Annual Moot and Mock Trial Session underscores J-K Gadzama LLP’s dedication to fostering practical skills and professionalism among the next generation of Nigerian lawyers.
